Ask Dr. Man - Dermabrasion vs. Microdermabrasion

What is the difference between Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion?

Both methods are used to improve the surface of the skin Dermabrasion acts to mechanically remove sharp edges of acne scars and other acquired scars. This technique blends acne scars into the surrounding facial skin, making them less noticeable. The surgeon uses a certain tool that has sanding capabilities and with his experience he knows how deep and far he has to go until he gets the best results.

Microdermabrasion; is a finer method that uses aluminum oxide or other crystals with high speed pressurized pump. Treatment results in more superficial abrasion.
Dermabrasion treats deeper larger scars better than Microdermabrasion.
